FINAL PROJECT– SELF-DESIGNED NEW MEDIA WORK
Advanced New Media in the Arts Presentation
Self-Evaluation
I feel like given that I didn't use the full term to do this project (because I switched it in week 4) and that each part of the process was brand new to me, the results were fairly decent. I say decent because the project got done and it was nice to learn the entire process, but I feel like I would want to try this again but with more developed skills. I would have liked to have burned more CDs and made better cover images. It wasn't the materials that held me back (I was able to get assistance from a lot of people), but simply that it was all new to me. I had to do everything from scratch: what program to use, how to burn, how to use the drawing tablet I had, how to use the drawing app I had, how to put the respective images on the same document, how to align the pictures to print out properly, and smaller things. That's not to say that I disliked the project; I really loved it. It's nostalgic to me and I got to show it off to my family. I think aside from the complexities, this was really fun.
Discussion of Finished Project
The process for this project had to be done step-by-step rather than having tasks be interchangeable. For the final project, I made 4 burned CDs - each consisting of different genres. I was able to acquire some empty CDs + empty CD cases from the library and more CD cases from my professor. I rented out a CD player from the library to have something to burn them on. I made a couple of playlists on Spotify and moved them over to the CDs. Once the CDs were done, I moved onto making covers to slide into the case. I got the measurements in inches and changed them to pixels to draw digitally. I got them printed out and ta-daaa!! They were completed.
The 4 albums were "Divorced Dad Rock" (early 2000s rock music), 'Depressed Cowboy" (sad country songs), "Limpiando la casa" (Spanish music that majority of Hispanic households have heard before with early exposure to it because it was used as cleaning music), and "Power Ballads" (title gives it away). I chose these because I grew up with the music associated within these categories.
