Reflection Blog Post No. 1

Kayla Baur's work wholeheartedly kept my interest. A lot of her work surrounded the color pink and the inclusion of mainstream references (BT21 merchandise, Sailor Moon, Hello Kitty, Barbie, possibly more that I didn't notice), and seeing work like that get taken seriously was so relieving. Especially since typically artwork that showcases commercialized items and follows a 'cutsie' pallet get criticized heavily for whatever reason, her giving a discussion about her pieces as any other artist would shows that there's no  need to dismiss her work. Pieces like hers highlights femininity in different perspectives, such as depicting a girly girl's room in one (indicating a little girl's room) to a pink car in the city (basically bringing your girlhood into your adult life) to a cabinet filled with pastel/pink antiques (reminiscing on your life but still having a constant with you through it all).  There were other type of works that she showed that didn't fi

Exercise No. 2 - Ten Spaces

This is a picture of a wall from the place I work. It's one of the very few spots that have no merchandise on it. This wall shows it consisting of mostly brick and a cement base. However, despite the appearance, it's not real brick. I honestly don't know what it is; I just know it's hollow. I chose to take this picture since I spend a good amount of time at my work, so I might as well get some homework done while I'm there. No. Although it would be cool to make a grunge scenery, I doubt that I'll be able to pull off an installation at my work lol. This is a picture of the right side of the Gaming House lobby. I chose specifically this area because I also spend a good amount of time here. This is the one area I'll spend time with friends to game and/or chit-chat. This area is neutral in its surrou

Exercise No. 1 - Three Objects

I chose to photograph these three items since each of these have been gifted to me from some friends. The first object is a dog toy Minion. I recieved this along side item three as a gift exchange back in my freshmen year. This gift was given to me as a gag gift. This holds importance to me since it was a niche thing that the person remembered and used that to determine my gift. This has been the main item I love showing off. The second is a plastic flower. I received it as a random gift in sophomore year by another friend. This person would use the flower as an excuse to come visit my dorm and check on me - asking why the flowers weren't front and center of everything and we would just go on from there. I store this with my small collection of tiny things (includes McDonald's Happy Meal toys, pins, and squishy animals) to make the flowers stand out the most. The third one is a knitted beanie. This was also given to me by a different person at the gift exchange. This person kni
