Journaling Project No. 3 – Operating: Playing VS. Listening VS. ‘Its Own Erotic’
What are the private components?
I don't think there has really been any private components of the final project. Even the behind-the-scenes work has been done with other people. To get the music on the CDs, I had help from a friend of mine who is very tech-savvy. He informed me what equipment I would need and how to move the files over. Figuring out the layout and construction of a cover booklet, I've been assisted by someone in the class who I know has done a CD cover booklet before and Prof. Rinehart. Designing the covers is more of a private component given that I don't like to draw in public, but sometimes I'll screenshare to friends either just for fun or to get an opinion on the art. However, I do realize that I'm not exactly presenting the behind-the-scenes to a large group and keeping the assistance to a minimum for each action. So maybe having these few helpers still keeps all of this private. But I'm still publicly sharing the process as well, so it doesn't make it private anymore.
In short - none.
Which components become public?
This one is obvious - listening to the music from the CDs, displaying the CD cases with the drawn covers, and presenting the work.
Could your project someday be remade or reperformed?
I am not the first person to burn CDs and I won't be the last. This is a practice that was in its prime during the early 2000s and is slowly picking up again. For the early 2000, technology for entertainment purposes was debuting and there were less restrictions on internet access. People used limewire to download music from Yoututbe, the PCs had built-in CD/DVD players, and it would take forever for music to burn. As mentioned in my previous blog post, I was too young to do any of this. Now, as I'm learning the burning process, there's noticeable changes when doing this. There's different platforms to choose music from and different applications to download with, CD/DVD players are not as accessible anymore, and the time it takes to burn is significantly shorter. Who knows what changes will be made within the next 20 years or so.
Updates on Final Project
It's going :,). I am still in the process of drawing out the covers for the CD cases. I am not all too familiar with the drawing application I'm using (Krita), but as long as the design stays basic, I don't have to worry about the more complex features of the app. Figuring out what to draw, though, is a little bit challenging. Only one playlist - Divorced Dad Rock - has been easy for me to think of content. For the other three, I am just not too sure. I'm pretty much doodling and hoping something lands. I have also met with Prof. Rinehart in regards to the measurements for the covers and for printing assistance. Nothing has been printed out yet since I want to do it all in one sitting, but for right now, I'm putting it all on one document so I don't have to worry about each image printing separately.
